On 13 October, CoWork Lab opened CoWork Lab 4, its new business centre at 1307 Street, nº 150, in Sommerschield, Maputo. Around 180 people attended the ceremony, including businesspeople, clients, partners and institutional representatives. With this opening, CoWork Lab now has seven spaces in Maputo and marks 14 years of activity in Mozambique.

An afternoon of celebration and new connections
The event ran from 5 pm to 8 pm and began with guests being welcomed to live music by Lourenço Junior.
The formal ceremony was led by master of ceremonies Nápula Alberto, with speeches by Pedro Ferreira, Managing Director of CoWork Lab; Cezerilo Matuce, member of TMCEL’s Management Committee; Edilson Madime, Managing Director of SOGIMO; and visual artist Patrícia Costa.

At 6 pm, Eng. Mahomed Mussá, Chair of TMCEL’s Management Board, and Pedro Ferreira cut the ribbon. A toast and the signing of the guest book followed.

Artist Patrícia Costa presented her photographic collection Kintsugi, on display in the new space. The evening ended as an open house: guests toured the facilities, exchanged ideas and created new business opportunities.

A building with history, open to the city
The new centre occupies a building that housed a training institute between 1991 and 2018. The original plaque from its inauguration has been preserved as a tribute to the building’s past.
The space offers private offices, meeting rooms, a conference room for more than 100 people, lounges for work and networking, and virtual office services. Reception, internet, cleaning, 24-hour security, water, electricity and a copy centre are included in the services available in this building.

The centre was designed as a space open to the community. CoWork Lab will set aside dates and spaces for entrepreneurs and artists to exhibit their work, starting with the exhibition “Kintsugi: Where the Cracks Become Light”.
14 years supporting entrepreneurs in Mozambique
CoWork Lab opened its first space in Maputo in 2012. Since then, it has grown at the pace of its clients, with new centres opening in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021, in areas such as Bairro Central, Sommerschield and Triunfo. Today it has seven business centres in Maputo and one in Portugal, each represented by one of the eight strokes of the brand’s logo.
Since its founding, the company has supported Mozambique’s entrepreneurial ecosystem with flexible solutions for young entrepreneurs and SMEs. Its offer also includes CoWork Lab Suites, accommodation for professionals in Maputo.
“Here, every connection counts”
“Fourteen years ago, we opened a small space with a simple idea: to give entrepreneurs a place to start. Today, seeing around 180 people gathered in this new centre shows how much that idea has grown alongside our clients and partners.”
“This new centre presents itself as a space to work, create and collaborate. We want it to be a starting point for new businesses and a showcase for Mozambique’s talent. Here, every connection counts.”
Pedro Ferreira, Managing Director of CoWork Lab
