What is Social Responsibility?

Social responsibility means that companies, in addition to making money for shareholders, must act in a way that benefits society. A company with social responsibility aims at the well-being of everyone, both the employees and the people who consume its products and/or service including ethical responsibility, by ensuring fair business practices across the board, philanthropic responsibility, by giving back to the community and donating to relevant causes, economic responsibility which implies taking good and sustainable business and financial decisions and environmental responsibility by engaging in environmentally friendly practices and reducing their footprint in the environment.

Why is a Social Responsibility Plan Important for Companies?

Effective social responsibility campaigns not only benefit the designated causes, but the companies involved as a whole. Studies indicate that companies with strong social responsibility programs have better morale, greater efficiency, a stronger public image and better employee loyalty. Another factor has to do with the market and the way of consuming that has been changing every day. Today there are new concepts and the consumer has been more demanding in relation to the product they consume and the values that the same product adds. People are more concerned about purchasing products and services from companies that care about their employees, that pay what is owed, that care about the environment and the surrounding community, meaning that they cause positive impacts inside and outside of the company. When an organization shows that it is committed to the community inside and outside its company, people feel more secure and confident to do business with it.

How Can Companies Launch Meaningful Social Responsibility Initiatives?

These are some ideas that can help you create a social responsibility plan that allows you to achieve the desired impact:

1. Choose a cause that is authentic to your brand.

The first priority should be to find an initiative that matches your company’s mission and vision . By choosing a cause that the company is committed to in the long term, your initiative will have more meaning and greater impact.

2. Engage customers.

Customers want and expect brands to be involved in social issues; adopting socially responsible policies goes a long way towards attracting and retaining customers, which is essential for a company’s long-term success. In addition, people will normally willingly pay for goods, knowing that part of the profits will be channeled to social causes.

3. Motivate employees.

Do not hesitate to encourage and promote employee participation in charitable initiatives. It is well known that when employees participate in programs that are important to them, their relationship with the company is strengthened and they are more dedicated to their own work functions.

4. Partner with charitable organizations.

It is also important to partner with one or more non-profit organizations, community-based if possible. These partnerships allow your company to leverage your knowledge of the issues and to create real and lasting change.

It is also important to understand that for a better connection with your target audience these campaigns must be publicized (through traditional means or through social networks), which can help to amplify your message.

How to be a Socially Responsible Company in Practice?

Many consumers are expecting to see positive attitudes and behaviors from their favorite brands and to be able to identify them in their daily lives. Here are some forms of social responsibility in vogue that you can apply to your company as well.

1. Reduce environmental impact.

This is a strategy widely used by many companies. Opting for less polluting raw materials, cataloging and separating waste, reusing and recycling, supporting cleaning campaigns, donating to environmental organizations, are some examples to follow.

2. Educate the target audience

Who doesn’t need financial education? Or nutritional education? Or promoting road safety? Depending on your area of activity, you can choose an impact theme and give valuable tips that can add knowledge to your consumers.

3 . Voluntary actions.

How about encouraging employees to do volunteer work? A practical tip is to visit homes for children and the elderly. Just a simple visit can do good for the people who live in these places.

4. Make donations to social institutions.

There are several institutions whose main objective is to promote a better life for the less privileged communities in our country. It is important to help them stabilize financially. This money will be used in various programs and projects that bring good food, education, health, clean water and other basic survival items to those who have very little.

Read Also: How to apply in a public tender in Mozambique?…

How to Choose the Social Institution?

Making a financial donation to an NGO is much more practical for everyone in your company and helps the community a lot. The question is: how to choose the institution? How to choose the one that will guarantee the money is applied in the desired purpose? Here, the ideal is to research the history of this NGO. The more information you have about the institution, the better. Also check if it provides an audit of accounts, if it is possible to obtain a certification that the donation really went where it should go, among several other factors that must be taken into account.

Adopting socially responsible practices increases customer retention and loyalty, increases employee engagement, enhances brand image, attracts investment opportunities and top talent, and makes a difference to your bottom line. However, it is important to emphasize that social responsibility must be something true and voluntary. Brands must transmit to the public that its desire to contribute to the society is real and sincere.

Working from anywhere, being able to organize a working day with freedom, being always available, but having greater control over your time – these are some of the possibilities that occur when thinking about what flexible work is. A rapidly evolving work concept that requires employers and employees to rethink and restructure their day-to-day work, promoting a cultural change in the way work is perceived and materialized.

Flexible working is a type of work arrangement that gives a degree of flexibility over how long, where, when and at which hours employees work. A flexible working agreement is an agreement between an employer and an employee to change the default working mode in order to better accommodate the employees’s commitments outside their job.

An indispensable prerequisite for ensuring flexible working is to challenge rigid and traditional working models. Rather than keeping employees in their workplace for eight hours, flexible working means responding to employees’ personal needs as well as reacting to the corresponding workload.

On the other hand, a certain freedom in choosing the workplace is an important component of flexible working. In times of massive digitization, a permanent presence in the company is not necessary in all cases.

Contrary to popular belief, flexible working is not just for office workers. There are several functions with access to flexibility. Some examples include offering employees some ability to design their own schedule with remote access being part of it; flexible start and end times; combine and share functions, for example: some days in an operational function and other days in a function that allows remote work.

Very recently, the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way we work and showed that traditional working models, which place a high value on “face-to-face”, are now firmly in the past. During this period, many companies adopted flexible working practices, such as remote working, at an unprecedented pace. This not only protects the workforce and ensures business continuity, but also supports broader official measures to contain the outbreak. Working from home or remotely can mean that people avoid long trips and have fewer distractions than in an office environment.

Read also: Remote work productivity: the (high) performance wears casual…

Potential Benefits of Flexible Working

Flexible working can lead to direct and indirect business benefits. Direct business benefits include saving office space, for example, by using information and communication technologies to enable remote work or remote office access. Flexible working also allows a better match between business resources and demand, such as serving customers 24/7.

Indirect business benefits are obtained through employee satisfaction and well-being at work. Some studies indicate that flexible workers have a higher level of job satisfaction and commitment, and are more likely to increase effort compared to those who do not work flexibly.

Principles to Take into account in Flexible Work Management

Although flexible working models increase employee productivity and motivation to some extent, while allowing for a better balance in life and a better adaptation of work to individual needs and personal lifestyle, there is still great distrust in relation to home office or remote work solutions. Therefore, it becomes necessary to determine, case by case, and in advance, the basic principles to ensure success in flexible working hours.

Flexible Working: Principles for Employers

Make Clear Agreements.

Flexible working demands clear agreements. Only if the general conditions are transparent and the main expectations clearly formulated, can a new work culture of trust emerge.

Measure Employee Performance.

Employee performance must be objectively defined and measured. The criteria must be defined in advance and preferably recorded in writing.

Don’t Neglect Leadership.

Even employees without a permanent presence need leadership. This means that regular criticism but also recognition and appreciation must be expressed. Under no circumstances, it should be done exclusively by email, but also in personal conversations and via phone calls.

Ensure Proper Working Conditions.

Employers have a duty to look after their employees. This also applies to conditions made available at flexible workplaces. This includes proper home office equipment as well as clear adherence to certain quiet times during which no phone calls or emails should be made.

Strengthen the Sense of Community.

Promoting direct exchange, valuing oneself and thus strengthening cooperation and a sense of community are also important duties of the employer, which must not be neglected. Joint team events are therefore essential.

Always Update Corporate Culture.

New work structures can only be successful if they are compatible with the corporate culture, philosophy and objectives, thus it is important to update and transmit the company’s culture to employees to allow the work to occur within a set of values, missions and goals by reach.

Flexible Working: Principles for Employees

Check Suitability.

If you want to practice flexible working, you must first critically review your own suitability for flexible working models. Many people feel insecure without a certain structure.

Take responsibility.

The employee assumes more entrepreneurial thinking and must be aware of his responsibility to the employer.

Set Clear Objectives.

Flexible working models are not a sideline, they require more assertiveness and presence to develop further.

Communicate correctly.

Your own tasks, processes and deadlines must be clearly communicated to the employer.

Set Work Pace.

Finding your pace: The pace of work should be tailored to your productivity and personal needs, without neglecting team processes.

Flexible working hours and workplace models require a high degree of self-organization. Those who work in flexible working models must also create a productive environment in their own home. To successfully practice flexible working, employees need to address their own strengths and weaknesses, offering a competitive advantage to those who are highly structured and disciplined and who as such can perform better in this model. Employees who lack these talents should try to compensate for these weaknesses with complementary strengths.

Strict working time models are becoming less and less attractive to many talented employees. A growing number of job seekers already consider flexible working and working hours an important or even the most important criterion for an employer, and companies that better understand this trend will be able to ensure that they hire the best talent.

NGOs in Mozambique (Non-Governmental Organizations) also known as CSOs (Civil Society Organizations) are non-profit entities that carry out different types of solidarity actions for specific audiences.

Non-Governmental Organizations act in distinct and legally specified areas, from the areas of health, education, social assistance, economy, environment, defense of minorities, religion, among others, at a local, provincial, national and even international level.

Civil society usually refers to the forms of organization of citizens that are neither part of the public nor the private sector, acting, in general, in the associative environment. However, in Mozambique, as elsewhere, the private sector contributes considerably to raising awareness of numerous development issues. At the same time, NGOs, companies and, above all, economic associations, play an important role vis-à-vis the State or in partnership with it, especially in the areas of legislation, infrastructure development or poverty reduction policies.

Importance of Non-Governmental Organizations

Non-Governmental Organizations, despite not belonging to the State, act in the public sphere through the provision of social services, usually of an assistance nature, which serve a larger group of society than just the founders and/or administrators of the organization, promoting social actions that have a public purpose. These days, such NGO projects are increasingly important and essential. This is because, as a result of the current economic and social crises , the number of people in a situation of social vulnerability has increased.

A Non-Governmental Organization can bring benefits such as social equality, better quality of life, innovative social projects and new opportunities for people in situations of vulnerability and for the society in general.

Read Also: How to apply in a public tender in Mozambique?

NGOs in Mozambique

In Mozambique, Non-Governmental Organizations are relatively recent. Until the early 1990s, the historical context of Mozambique did not favor the emergence of a culture of expression of non-state actors. However, even with difficulties, religious organizations, for example, prevailed over time and, at the same time, organizations such as the Mozambican women (OMM) , the Mozambican youth (OJM) , the Mozambican workers (OTM), among others that were somehow linked to the state were created.

During the 16-year civil war, international NGOs , such as the Red Cross, Save The Children, etc. , began to operate for the relief of those affected and displaced by the war . But their activities were authorized on a precarious basis, with no comprehensive, case-by-case legislation for specific projects . However, the most important milestone in the emergence of NGOs was the 1990 Constitution and subsequent law nº 8/91 , two legal instruments that allowed, for the first time in the history of Mozambique, to citizens willing to organize themselves into associations pursuing specific objectives.

In recent years, the government has opened up institutional spaces for citizens to participate in the process of formulating and implementing public policies, through mechanisms such as institutions for Community Participation and Consultation and Development Observatories, the latter defined as “Government instruments and of the other intervening partners in the fight against poverty for the follow-up and supervision of the monitoring, evaluation and consultation processes in the scope of actions for the reduction of poverty”.

In response to these openings, it is possible to observe the emergence, in Mozambican society, of various forums, at the national, district and municipal levels, promoting the participation of citizens in the processes of formulating social policies in the different areas: health, education, environment environment, and others.

How do NGOs fit in legally?

Currently, Mozambican legislation is open and citizens can, if they wish, join to form a civil society organization, provided that the objectives they set are lawful and possible. Law No. 8/91 on freedom of association continues to be the only legal basis that allows the formalization of all forms of non-governmental organization, with the exception of Foundations. This uniform text does not distinguish between NGOs, grassroots community organisations, trade unions, religious congregations or associations that develop projects of an economic nature. In terms of types, we predominantly find the following: Of cultural, religious and regional character ; Socio-recreational; Private interest organizations , Education and service provision and Advocacy and social movements.

Read Also: Business Visibility: how to promote it

How to open NGOs in Mozambique?

National Non-Governmental Organizations

For the opening and formalization of a national organization, the process is relatively simple, with the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs being the entity in charge of authorizing the associations. In terms of requirements, a minimum of 10 founding members is required; a copy of your identity documents and criminal record; a copy of the statutes; authentication of said documents and recognition of signatures by a notary; request for issuance of a negative certificate by the Ministry of Justice indicating that the name chosen for the association is not yet used; presentation of documents and negative certificate for authorization by the Minister.

The delivery of the application file for authorization to form an association is accompanied by a sum of money. Publishing the statutes is the most costly step. These must be delivered to the National Press for certification and payment of the respective fees.

Foreign Non-Governmental Organizations

Decree 55/98, of 13 October, of the Council of Ministers, creates the legal framework that defines the criteria for authorizing the activities of foreign Non-Governmental Organizations in Mozambique. The entity responsible for authorizing the start of NGO activities in Mozambique is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

NGOs are responsible for submitting annual reports on their activities to this body, during the exercise of their activities.

Authorization for the start of NGO activities is requested, by means of a request containing the name of the NGO, headquarters or domicile, accompanied by the following documents: Certified copy of statutes that prove its legal existence in the country; Proposal of the general program of activities to be carried out in Mozambique; Description of the organization’s history and work experience; Staff list that it proposes to use; Document proving the capacity and availability of financial resources necessary to carry out activities in Mozambique.

Tax obligations

For these purposes, NGOs must register with the Tax Department of the respective tax area, after authorization for the start of activity and before the start of their activity, and are subject to inspection or tax audit.

Challenges of NGOs in Mozambique

Non-Governmental Organizations are civil society entities that, in origin, are private initiatives, but with public and non-profit purposes, characterized by an emphasis on voluntary participation and social activism. One of the great challenges of these entities is to offer, in the country, an alternative space for participative, dialogic management and for the development of citizenship. But for that, NGOs have to guarantee robust financial sustainability and, at the same time, technological means and know-how, such as, for example, knowing who to dialogue with, and at what levels, so that their action has the expected result.

This involves, on the one hand, understanding the space where they operate and adapting to the changes that occur in the world, allowing flexibility and organizational agility in the design of business models and performance, the incorporation of solutions based on information technologies and new services and products for development in a rapidly changing world. It is equally important for NGOs to see themselves as entrepreneurial institutions geared towards social development, subject to competition and public scrutiny.

Although the NGO movement in Mozambique is relatively new, it has already taken great strides and mobilized a group of citizens committed to the cause of development; at the same time, it has contributed greatly to the provision of basic services in water, health, education, food production, fighting diseases, access to justice, respect for human rights and greater inclusion of women and other groups in situations of vulnerability.

It is one of the most recent and striking trends in the professional world, and its organization, in recent years. And the question illustrates the gradual entry of more and more professionals in this type of work: but, after all, what is coworking?

Translated from English, the concept designates co-work, that is, collaborative work. Imagine working in a rented office (per year, month, week or even hour), with dozens of professionals from other companies, from different areas of activity – or not at all – and (perhaps) diverse professional functions, with different business missions and objectives, but sharing the same infrastructure, logistics and services inherent to the normal and fluid functioning of the space. That is … coworking.

The creation of the term, in 1999, is attributed to the North American game creative Bernie DeKoven, at a time when, little by little, side by side with the computational development, a new model of the work environment germinated, in a component remote / online, to the extent of the so-called “normal” work.

With the Internet providing the fertile ground to receive the foundations of teleworking, as we know it today, it was up to the entrepreneur Brand Neuberg, in 2005, to give the first practical answer to those who were wondering about what coworking is.

In San Francisco (United States of America), Neuberg created, in a kind of residential loft, Hat Factory, the first coworking space designated as such. The contract started with three workers from technological areas, initially called “9 to 5 group”, but opened doors to independent professionals who needed a headquarters to develop their activities and who sought to share knowledge and experience.

What is coworking: changes, evolution and profiles

The stage represented a change to the concept, which started to illustrate, more, a collaborative physical space, after being first associated with an external online work environment in the extension of the traditional company.

Many coworking hubs were founded by entrepreneurs from various business areas and, equally by the so-called “nomads” of the technological universe, in search of alternative facilities to work.

The evolution, the particularities and the rules of the labor market took care of the rest. And that is why, today, we are witnessing the proliferation of coworking spaces (with meeting rooms, training units, social areas, high-speed Wi-Fi, printers, air conditioning and other extras – such as a car park or public transport in the immediate vicinity – in addition to the work points themselves).

All over the world, both in the most developed and developing countries, new projects are born every day, like mushrooms, with distinctive factors, which give an answer, not to the doubt about what coworking is, but to a demand growing, diversified and full of specificities.

Although the profile knows some variations, from country to country, the statistics say that, in general, the vast majority of coworkers who use the available spaces are men (two thirds of the total), between twenty and thirty some years old (the average is 33/34 years old), who entered (four fifths of them) in the work world with a university education behind them.

These are, above all, independent professionals (more than 50 percent) linked to creative industries, new media and technologies, that don’t have to “poke the point”. At least in the traditional way …

(In) certainties, challenges and advantages …

But, little by little, the profile of coworkers is changing and there are countries in which employees make up more than 30 percent of the total users of coworking spaces.

We got used to seeing the collaborative work centers occupied by entrepreneurs, micro-enterprises, small business employees, some of them local and / or regional, but the number of national and multinational companies that see in coworking a capable solution, full of support resources, flexible, and tailored to the different strategic stages that have been outlined.

Because? Because the new model of work carries advantages, and also because of the unpredictability of new public health phenomena with social and economic impact …

That is why, thinking about productivity and the control of multiple variables, countless companies, brands and projects seek to reduce costs – if not with all employees, at least with a part -, namely with equipment and logistical resources. In the long run, the indirect and operational cost of any activity ends up allowing for even greater optimization.

Consequently, the number of institutions and people asking about what is coworking and about what challenges, benefits and characteristics the model carries is constantly increasing.

What is coworking? It’s creativity, synergy and networking

Of course, there are jobs that are not compatible with telecommuting (or remote work) and work functions that are not compatible with the concept. Secretary and / or office metiers, however, can enjoy the magic of the Internet to give virtual, digitized expression to the sharing of ideas, experiences, decisions, using tools such as videoconferences, remote servers and platforms of shared data.

In reality, we are witnessing the formation of a new paradigm of workspace, which even increases with professionals who have had enough of working alone, at home, without the possibility of stimulating creativity, networking (increasing the network of contacts), create job synergies or increase business opportunities.

On top of that, especially in the millennial generation (the great dynamo of work for many organizations) who do not have many doubts about what coworking is, the number of professionals who prefer to be evaluated for the fulfillment of objectives and deadlines for carrying out tasks is exponential, instead of working hours.

Moreover, one of the trends in the current job market is the need to adapt to the changes taking place, this is if companies want to attract and continue to retain talent. Job satisfaction and productivity come in threading …

Flexibility that leads to balance

It is not surprising, therefore, that recent studies by human resources companies place the option of remote work in the top spot, whether part-time or full-time, in surveys conducted at university.

More than that, flexible working has seen record growth across the globe in recent years. And it is predicted that it will be able to grow even more, in the next five years, in a percentage that some specialized reports note that it can easily reach 30 percent.

Flexibility is therefore a watchword and, in a professional context, it turns out to be the one that best combines work with life and personal and family goals. Balance is key, and, in this particular, coworking turns out to be an ideal solution.

Arriving here, we ended up realizing that coworking is much more than the concept closed in itself: it is not just a way of working based on the sharing of an infrastructure, where there may be professionals who do not necessarily work for the same company or in the same activity and / or function.

What is coworking beyond the fundamental…

In order to go further on what coworking is, and to differentiate themselves from competitors, several operators offer concepts with innovation factors and value-added proposals – in line with the typology and requirements of market demand.

Some provide the necessary support to start each business, even helping customers – the future coworkers – to choose the best location for the workspace in the available offer, developing even the interior decor in detail. Other operators add support in recruiting and training the workforce that will work in the coworking space.

In another way, there are coworking brands, with a strong international presence, which place the marketing and sales team not only promoting their collaborative work centers but also forwarding business opportunities to their respective customers (coworkers, understand ), which involves, in some instances, forwarding leads online. And there are market promoters offering, in addition, solutions for offices and virtual meeting rooms.

Even in countries where the offer of collaborative work centers is large and diverse, the market is far from saturated and there is still a significant margin to innovate and make a difference for many businesses.

The sector has, in fact, several events that elect the proposals that, here and there, are distinguished in the areas of operation, and raising to another level the goals that define what is coworking.

Coworking is the new normal, for millions around the world

With the nuances of each country and community, it is certain that, for millions of workers spread over six continents, flexible work and coworking are seen as the new normal in their respective careers, and a key factor in the evaluation of new job opportunities. career. More: between seeing the increased holiday allowance and having the power to choose in the work environment, some studies point out, more than half of the workers prefer the second option …

Flexibility – which teleworking and coworking allow – currently plays a critical role in today’s working reality.

Now, it is changing. Even due to unforeseen factors – such as the pandemic caused by Covid-19 -, which is opening furrows in coworking spaces to receive new growth seeds, with greater security, including cybernetics.

The global public health and sanitation crisis allowed us to realize that the meaning of the workspace underwent an irreversible change in 2020, as it was disconnected from a specific geographic location.

Henceforth, there are no doubts for many specialists, it will be the era of the hybrid office and teleworking will emerge as the standard modality. Which, on a planetary scale, will compel thousands of companies to provide employees with efficient work tools, safe and adjusted to new needs.

The spaces that specialize in collaborative work are at the forefront of preparation and adaptation to be made, in response to the challenges that lie ahead. Which will eventually imply a new update to the concept of what coworking is all about.

On the verge of a new era for what coworking is all about?

But, after all, what is at stake?

Now, a study by Ricoh Europe focused on the issue: small companies are 42% more likely than large companies to lose employees due to technological frustrations related to teleworking. As such, as small business owners continue to recover from the effects of the global pandemic, professionals expect the employer to offer a modern mixed approach to how – and where – they work.

At a time when business continuity is at stake, it was found that about a third of employees did not have adequate technology to collaborate with colleagues in teleworking. Conclusion aggravated by the fact that a quarter claims not to have the necessary tools to deliver results to customers while working remotely.

Companies, especially small ones, do not have time to waste on the path of digitalization, towards hybrid solutions for remote work. And this transformation is expected to imply, at the same time, a new approach in terms of security, since they have significantly changed the parameters to protect business.

Cybersecurity is a critical factor

Coworking spaces, as areas technically and technologically prepared and imbued with a great motivational spirit, are privileged solutions to meet new challenges.

One of them, critical, is cybersecurity. Because in the era of the “hybrid office”, as Konica Minolta recently noted, cybercrime has quickly adapted to the new reality of the workspace and has begun to tackle unsafe work at home processes.

Concomitantly, there is a new type and a new wave of people discovering what coworking is.

In addition to representing a safe, efficient and sustainable compromise between the traditional office and homeworking, coworking is, more and more, the safe haven to deal with frustrations arising from difficulties with technology and the inability to collaborate effectively. when telecommuting – a symptom that is demotivating about a third of employees, according to studies by some international technology companies.

Now that you’ve learned more about what is coworking, and the brave new world that revolves around collaborative work, don’t hesitate to visit the CoWork Lab spaces and schedule a visit.

Living in a fast-paced world, especially in a professional context, where demands are increasing and the pressure to perform is constant, can overload our mind and harm our performance over time. In this challenging scenario, the practice of mindfulness at work emerges as an essential tool to face distractions, manage stress and promote balance and mental well-being.

We often find ourselves faced with situations in which information overload and the need to perform several tasks simultaneously can result in lapses in attention. Imagine a professional who has to deal with tight deadlines, try to respond to emails, participate in virtual meetings and complete complex projects , all at the same time. This overload can lead to errors, lack of clarity in communications and, eventually, negatively impact the quality of work.

However, by practicing mindfulness, this professional could adopt a more conscious approach. He could take a few minutes to briefly pause and focus fully on his breathing, allowing his mind to calm down. This moment of mindfulness could provide mental clarity so that he would return to his tasks with renewed focus.

Furthermore, by incorporating mindfulness into everyday life , one could develop the ability to perform one task at a time with full concentration and avoid the trap of multitasking that often results in superficial work and mistakes . This more conscious approach would not only improve your efficiency, but also contribute to a calmer and more productive work environment.

What is mindfulness ?

Mindfulness , also known as full attention, is a technique that has its roots in meditation, and is currently applied in several areas, including the professional environment. Its rise as a popular practice began to be noticed in recent decades, as society looked for ways to deal with the stress and hustle and bustle of modern life.

This approach involves being completely focused on the current moment , focusing on thoughts, feelings and sensations without making judgments. By practicing mindfulness, professionals can develop the ability to disconnect from the constant flow of thoughts, worries and distractions, allowing them to focus on the present more effectively.

This practice contributes to a calmer, more balanced mind, which in turn can improve decision-making. and quality of work , also increasing resistance to stress. The ability to observe thoughts without judgment allows for a deeper understanding of yourself and others, as well as promoting healthier interpersonal relationships and more effective communication in the workplace.

Additionally, mindfulness has been linked to improvements in mental health, reducing levels of anxiety and depression. This regular practice can create a more positive and collaborative work environment, where professionals feel more connected and engaged .

Everyday professional situations that require mindfulness

Extended Meetings:

Imagine yourself in a meeting room, where discussions seem endless. Every minute, your mind wanders to thoughts unrelated to the meeting. The result? A lack of clarity in understanding the topic under discussion and less effective decision making.

Excessive multitasking:

Visualize yourself facing several simultaneous tasks, each demanding your attention. As you try to navigate these waters , efficiency decreases, and the quality of work can be compromised. Mindfulness comes in here as an antidote to information overload, allowing you to focus more effectively on a single task at a time.

Ineffective Communication:

Think about an important conversation interrupted by distractions. Whether it’s an incessantly ringing phone or the temptation to check notifications, these interruptions can lead to misunderstandings and a lack of clarity in the information exchanged. Mindfulness allows for more conscious communication and empowerment d the quality of interactions .

Tight Deadlines:

Feel the pressure of imminent deadlines, where anxiety begins to set in. In a state of stress, the ability to think clearly is impaired. Mindfulness acts as a tool to manage anxiety , allowing a calmer and more focused mind, even under pressure.

Noisy Working Environment:

Imagine yourself in a busy office, with constant noise around you. The incessant noise makes it difficult to concentrate , negatively impacting productivity. Mindfulness offers a way to disconnect from these distractions and allows you to stay focused on your tasks.

By incorporating mindfulness into these everyday situations , professionals can significantly improve their ability to deal with workplace challenges, promoting a more conscious and effective approach to their activities .

How to Incorporate mindfulness into everyday work

Short, Mindful Breaks: Take short breaks to reconnect with yourself. Breathing deeply for a few minutes can make a big difference.

Mindfulness of Breathing: Take time to focus on your breathing. This helps calm the mind and cultivate mindfulness.

Limitations on multitasking: to do one task at a time, focusing fully on it before moving on to the next .

Setting Digital Limits: Establish specific intervals to check emails or messages, thus avoiding constant distractions.

Organized Environment: Keep your workspace organized. An orderly environment can contribute to mental clarity.

The Impacts of Mindfulness in the Work Environment

Stress Reduction :

Consistent mindfulness practice not only provides moments of calm throughout the day, but also reshapes the stress response. By cultivating full awareness, professionals learn to deal with the pressures of the work environment in a more balanced way , resulting in reduced overall stress levels. This creates a healthier working environment, where challenges are faced with resilience and calm.

Concentration Enhancement:

Imagine having the ability to fully concentrate on a task without being constantly distracted by irrelevant thoughts. Mindfulness strengthens the ability to maintain focus, improves concentration and allows professionals to perform tasks more efficiently. This improvement in concentration not only benefits the quality of work, but also contributes to a greater sense of personal accomplishment.

Informed Decision Making:

Mental clarity is a valuable ally in decision making. With mindfulness, professionals develop a heightened awareness of the present moment, allowing them to analyze information in a more objective and considered way.

Improvement in Professional Relations:

Relating consciously with colleagues and superiors is one of the great advantages of mindfulness. By promoting more attentive and judgment-free communication, this practice strengthens interpersonal relationships. The empathy cultivated by mindfulness creates an environment where differences are understood and respected, contributing to a more positive organizational culture.

By embracing mindfulness in the professional environment, professionals not only face the demands of work more resiliently, but also fundamentally transform the way they interact with themselves and others, promoting a healthier and more productive work environment.

The management of labor conflicts is a critical component for effectiveness and harmony in organizations. Conflicts in the workplace can arise from various sources, such as personality differences, unmet expectations, cultural differences, disputes over resources, among others. These conflicts, if not addressed properly, can have significant impacts on organizations, affecting employee morale, productivity and, ultimately, the company’s reputation. Therefore, it is essential to understand the underlying causes, potential effects and strategies for effectively resolving these conflicts.

The causes of industrial conflicts can vary widely, but they are often rooted in a lack of effective communication, competition for limited resources, a lack of clarity in expectations and roles, or issues related to organizational culture. Furthermore, organizational changes, such as restructuring or mergers, can contribute to instability and generate conflicts between team members.

Consider, for example, the following situation: an employee requests flexible working hours due to increasing family responsibilities or another situation that he deems pertinent. However, the employer, concerned about team consistency and maintaining operational standards, is reluctant to grant the requested flexibility. This can lead to conflict, as the employee may feel overwhelmed by their personal obligations, while the employer tries to balance their individual needs with organizational requirements. Lack of mutual understanding and compromise can result in tensions between both parties, leading to a conflict that requires appropriate handling and resolution.

As in the previous example, the effects of labor conflicts can be vast and far-reaching. They can result in a drop in productivity, increased absenteeism, high employee turnover, lack of commitment to work quality and even legal disputes. Furthermore, the organizational climate can deteriorate, affecting overall job satisfaction and collaboration among team members. Consequently, it is imperative that organizations adopt proactive approaches to conflict resolution, aiming to minimize negative impacts.

Conflict resolution in organizations can take many forms, depending on the nature and severity of the conflict. Traditional strategies include mediation, negotiation and arbitration. Mediation, for example, involves the intervention of an impartial third party to facilitate communication between parties in conflict and help them find mutually acceptable solutions. Negotiation, on the other hand, implies that the parties involved reach an agreement through direct discussions. Arbitration is a more formal process in which an “arbitrator” makes binding decisions based on evidence presented by the parties.

In the case of Mozambique, the resolution of labor conflicts involves administrative processes conducted by entities such as the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security. Furthermore, the parties have the option of resorting to legal action when necessary, following current labor laws and regulations. It is therefore crucial, for both the employer and the employee, to consult up-to-date legal sources, including labor legislation and relevant bodies, to obtain accurate information about specific dispute resolution practices in the country.

Tips for resolving labor conflicts

A key strategy in the modern management of labor disputes is the adoption of preventive and proactive approaches. Implementing clear policies, training programs in interpersonal skills and promoting an inclusive organizational culture are effective strategies. Additionally, creating open communication channels, such as suggestion boxes, complaints, and/or feedback and follow-up programs, play a key role in preventing conflict by allowing employees to express concerns in a constructive manner.

When signing employment contracts, workers must exercise considerable due diligence to avoid potential future conflicts. Clarity is essential; Fully understanding the terms and conditions of the contract, including salaries, benefits, responsibilities and clauses relating to notice periods or contract termination, is essential. Therefore, seeking clarification on any aspect that may generate ambiguity or misunderstandings is essential.

Attention to organizational culture is also crucial when signing contracts. Understanding company norms and values facilitates effective integration and avoids conflicts related to cultural adaptation. Participating in onboarding sessions and seeking information about the company culture can be valuable in this context.

Caution when signing contracts implies, when necessary, consulting legal resources. The assistance of lawyers specializing in labor law provides a more in-depth understanding of contractual terms, ensuring the protection of the worker’s interests.

In summary, effective conflict management at work is essential to the sustained success of organizations. Identifying and addressing underlying causes, understanding potential effects, and implementing proactive resolution strategies are crucial. At the same time, workers play a vital role in preventing conflict and must exercise caution when signing contracts, understand organizational expectations, and seek clarity regarding contractual terms. By taking a holistic approach to conflict management, organizations can create healthier, more productive and collaborative work environments.

Every employee has been in this situation once: after a few days or weeks of tireless dedication, they complete a challenging professional project at work. You finally close the spreadsheets, turn off the computer, and breathe a sigh of relief, knowing you did a great job. Your expectation from then on is to receive your long-awaited salary at the end of the month; an amount that reflects your working hours and goals achieved. However, although this monetary salary is an important factor in that individual’s professional life, it represents only a part of what his earnings would be as an employee The question that arises next is: what is the other salary gain besides the monetary one? Will it be an emotional salary?

In another situation, imagine an employee, John, who works in a geological research company that is focused on a graphite and other mineral mining projects, somewhere in Mozambique. John is a talented geologist and has dedicated himself intensely to the project. After months of hard work, the company recognizes his exceptional performance and names him “Geologist of the Month”, an honor reserved for employees who stand out most in their contribution to the company’s work projects. Furthermore, the company holds regular team meetings to assess the project’s progress, and John is frequently praised for his dedication, which is crucial to the success and positive results of the mining project. In this specific scenario of geological research and the mining project, John benefits from the emotional salary, because he feels valued and recognized for the work carried out. This not only motivates you emotionally, but also strengthens your commitment to the company, making you more satisfied at work and more productive in your routine activities. Emotional pay, in this case, contributes to a positive work environment in the geological survey company and to the retention of the talented geologist.

But what exactly is emotional salary?

Emotional pay is a term that refers to the non-financial benefits that employees receive for work performed. This includes recognition, growth opportunities, work-life balance, a positive work environment and other factors that contribute to job satisfaction. Emotional pay plays a crucial role in motivating and retaining talent, as employees tend to value both the emotional aspects of their jobs and the financial ones.

Emotional salary goes far beyond the numbers on a check or a bank balance. It is the experience that an individual obtains in the work environment, the feelings of accomplishment, satisfaction and belonging.. It’s the non-tangible rewards that make someone feel fulfilled. While the monetary salary fulfills the financial needs, the emotional salary fulfills the employee’s psychological needs.

Understanding the difference between these two types of salary is essential to appreciate the importance of emotional salary in the satisfaction and retention of professionals in companies. In a world where work-life balance, recognition and development are increasingly valued, it is essential to consider not only what is printed on the salary check, but also what the heart and mind of the worker truly values.

The importance of being truly happy at work.

The importance of the satisfaction of professionals in organizations, against the backdrop of the benefits of emotional wages, is something that should not be underestimated. Job satisfaction, as we have seen, is not limited to monetary salary, but encompasses an emotional dimension that is vital for the well-being of the individual and the success of organizations

Emotional pay comprises elements that shape the workplace experience. Recognition is one of these pillars. When employees feel valued and recognized for their contributions, their commitment and productivity increase. Sincere praise and development opportunities provide satisfaction, encouraging talent retention.

The balance between work and personal life is another fundamental aspect. Companies that balance this scale help employees maintain their mental and emotional health, resulting in greater productivity at work and a healthier workforce.

Additionally, a positive work environment is a key ingredient for happiness at work. When colleagues and superiors promote respect, collaboration and support, employee satisfaction thrives, creating a circle of high motivation and performance.

Professional development also plays an important role. Training opportunities, new learning and personal growth not only strengthen individual satisfaction, but also benefit the company by improving the team’s skills.

Ultimately, job security is an emotional anchor that reduces stress and uncertainty. Employees who feel secure in their jobs are more productive and loyal.

In short, happiness at work, driven by emotional pay, is a two-way street, benefiting both employees and the organizations they work for. Happy employees are more motivated, productive and loyal, promoting a positive work environment. Valuing and investing in emotional pay is not only beneficial, but also essential for the long-term success of any company. True wealth at work goes far beyond money, residing in the emotional fulfillment and well-being of everyone involved.

Labor well-being is an increasingly valued concept in companies. Despite seeming a commonplace , this concept involves a series of elements crucial to the success of an organization and the satisfaction of its employees , including promoting a healthy work environment, both physically and mentally, recognizing the value of employees, providing opportunities for growth and development, work-life balance, and taking effective measures to deal with stress and work-related conflicts .

Workplace well-being is fundamental to employee happiness and productivity. To promote a healthy environment, companies can offer benefits such as flexible hours, physical activity programs, psychological support, listening to employees’ needs and recognizing their work, as well as ensuring the conditions for a positive environment in the workplace. Adopting this business philosophy is not only beneficial for employees, but also for the company, as healthy and happy employees tend to be more productive and committed.

WHY COMPANIES NEED TO INVEST IN THE WELL-BEING OF THEIR EMPLOYEES TODAY?

Productivity

Companies need to invest in the well-being of their employees for several reasons. Firstly, employee well-being is directly related to productivity. Healthy and satisfied employees tend to perform higher quality work and be more efficient. Additionally, this approach reduces absenteeism, which means fewer costs for employees absent due to illness or stress.

Retaining talent

Investing in workplace well-being also helps retain talent. Organizations that care about the well-being of their employees are more attractive to professionals looking for a balance between personal and professional life, as well as their physical and mental health. This leads to a more stable and satisfied workforce, which contributes to a more positive and collaborative work environment.

Save costs

Furthermore, companies that promote workplace well-being tend to save on healthcare costs, as healthy employees have less need for medical care. This approach also contributes to the company’s positive image, attracting customers, investors and business partners who want to associate with socially responsible organizations.

Valuing employees

Employees also benefit directly, as they feel valued and cared for by their employer, which results in greater job satisfaction. Additionally, investing in mental health and emotional support helps prevent mental health issues, which are a significant cause of absenteeism and low productivity.

Organizational culture and social responsibility

Leaders who promote workplace well-being demonstrate leadership effectiveness, inspiring others to follow suit. This, in turn, creates a positive organizational culture. Making investments in workplace well-being is an essential part of corporate social responsibility strategy, demonstrating business ethics and concern for the community.

THE ADVANTAGES OF LABOR WELL-BEING

There are several advantages and positive results for an organization that cares about the well-being of its employees; Among them, it is possible to highlight the following:

Happier and Satisfied Employees : Well-being at work contributes to employee happiness and satisfaction. When companies care about the well-being of their employees, they feel valued and appreciated. Happy employees tend to stay at companies longer and be more loyal.

Greater Productivity : Healthy and balanced employees tend to be more productive. Stress, anxiety and health problems can negatively affect work performance. Investing in the well-being of employees can result in greater productivity and quality at work.

Reducing Absenteeism : Labor well-being is directly related to the reduction of absenteeism. Healthy employees miss less work due to illness or stress. This saves the company time and resources.

Better Working Environment : Workplace well-being contributes to a more positive working environment. Employees who feel good at work are more likely to collaborate, communicate and help colleagues, creating a more harmonious environment.

HOW TO PROMOTE LABOR WELL-BEING?

As discussed, promoting workplace well-being in companies is essential to keeping employees healthy, motivated and productive. Here are some steps that organizations can take to ensure well-being within their work environment:

Health and Wellness Programs: Companies can implement health programs that include regular medical checkups, physical activities, healthy nutrition and mental health counseling. These programs promote a healthy lifestyle among employees.

Work Flexibility : Offering flexible work hours and the possibility of remote work can help employees balance their professional and personal lives. This reduces stress and improves employee satisfaction.

Recognition and Rewards : Recognizing and rewarding employees’ hard work is essential to promoting well-being. This may include awards, public praise and development opportunities.

Culture of Open Communication : Fostering a culture of open communication is essential. Employees should feel comfortable expressing concerns, ideas and feedback. This promotes a work environment where everyone feels heard and valued.

Training and Development: Providing training and professional development opportunities can increase workplace well-being. Employees who feel they are progressing in their careers tend to be more motivated and satisfied.

To conclude, it can be stated that ensuring labor well-being also requires an approach sensitive to local realities. In the case of Mozambique, many employees face challenges such as long commutes due to poor transportation, concerns about limited accessibility to healthcare, and bureaucracy in processing important documents. However, it is essential that companies recognize and address these issues to keep employees happy and productive. Investing in physical and mental well-being, promoting work-life balance and creating a positive work environment are crucial steps in this challenging context. This investment will contribute to the long-term success of companies in Mozambique.

Let’s imagine this situation: a company that operates in the technology field is planning an important project that involves multidisciplinary teams, including developers, designers, salespeople and communication specialists. The project leader adopts a series of strategies that aim to achieve a diversity of skills and perspectives within the team, without negatively impacting the behavior of employees and the development of the project , and maintaining the normal flow of activities and the achievement of work goals. This situation is called inclusive leadership.

But what, in fact, is inclusive leadership?

Inclusive leadership is one in which the leader takes into account and values the opinions of their members, opening space for them to openly express their opinions and contribute and participate actively in the organization’s day-to-day processes Inclusive leadership creates a light and motivating environment in the organization because, when employees, members or employees of an organization have the opportunity to actively participate and have the freedom to express themselves and communicate their problems or doubts, they truly feel like an integral part of the organization.

In inclusive leadership, leaders do not just stick to their ideas, but are always open to hearing a different point of view and considering the opinion of those they lead. Another great characteristic of inclusive leadership is the breaking down of barriers, especially communication barriers, because due to the leader’s openness in listening to his employees, they feel free to approach him and give an opinion on a given situation.

This inclusive leadership approach allows the team to make the most of the diversity of talents and experiences, resulting in better results for the organization. Returning, for example, to our initial situation, what are the strategies that an inclusive leader can employ?

One of the first challenges that inclusive leadership must resolve are communication challenges. By promoting open communication , for example by holding regular meetings to ensure that all team members have an equal voice and opportunity to contribute ideas and suggestions or raise concerns. In this way, the leader establishes an environment where communication is encouraged and valued.

Another concern for inclusive leadership is clarity in defining goals . The inclusive leader works together with the team to define the goals and objectives of the project, ensuring that everyone has a clear and shared understanding of what is intended to be achieved. These goals must take into account the different skills, knowledge and experience of the work team members.

The inclusion of different perspectives is also another concern of inclusive leadership. An inclusive leader recognizes that diversity of perspectives is an advantage and actively encourages the contribution of each team member. He values divergent ideas and seeks to integrate them constructively into the decision-making process.

Personal development and feedback : The leader provides guidance and development opportunities to team members, recognizing that each person has unique skills they can contribute. He offers constructive feedback and encourages everyone’s growth.

The last strategy, but not least, is promoting equality . An inclusive leader must be proactive in promoting equal opportunities, ensuring that there is no discrimination based on gender, race, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic. It creates an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

Inclusive leadership plays a fundamental role in the success of an organization, and the practices or strategies exemplified illustrate its importance. By promoting inclusion, the leader is, in fact, investing in strengthening the team and improving the project’s results. But how is it possible to promote or encourage this type of leadership?

Firstly, the emphasis must be focused on education. Training on diversity and inclusion issues is essential as this will increase staff awareness and promote understanding of issues related to inclusion. When team members understand why inclusion is important, they are more likely to adopt inclusive practices in their daily work.

Furthermore, the leader must establish an environment where diversity of skills and perspectives is valued . This means that you will have to create an environment dedicated to professional support and development, where everyone feels empowered to contribute fully, which in turn will strengthen bonds within the team and equally increase member commitment and satisfaction.

A review of company policies and the promotion of equal opportunities will also demonstrate a clear commitment to equity. This not only attracts diverse talent, but also creates an environment where everyone has a fair opportunity to succeed.

Finally, when recruiting new members, the leader must ensure that diversity is prioritized from the beginning, creating a diverse team from scratch. This not only contributes to a more inclusive environment, but also improves decision-making and drives innovation.

Overall, these practices are essential for promoting inclusive leadership in an organization. They not only create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected, but they also promote innovation, productivity and the drive for results, demonstrating that investing in inclusive leadership is a valuable strategic investment.

Organizations are made up of people, and these people in turn come from different environments and, consequently, their way of acting and thinking is not always the same. . It is a challenge for organizations to be able to bring together different people in the same environment and make them work towards a single objective without clashes and conflicts arising along the way.

Imagine a work team in a company where two members, John and Mary, have different approaches to carrying out an important project. John believes that approach A is the most effective, while Mary is convinced that approach B is the best. They cannot agree on which path to take and begin to express their opinions more assertively in meetings and emails, sometimes leading to heated and impertinent debates.

As can be seen from this example, the probability of labor conflicts arising between employees is quite high and these organizational conflicts are often the result of poor leadership, as well as a toxic work environment environment in which inequality is manifested. and the sense of common purpose does not prevail . Organizational conflicts undermine the good functioning of the company and greatly harm the relationship between employees.

In the scenario presented above, organizational conflict occurs due to the difference in perspectives and approaches to executing a project. If not managed well, this type of conflict can affect the team’s productivity, create a tense work environment and harm the progress of the project itself.

If so, what are the other types of conflict that occur in organizations?

Organizational conflicts can manifest themselves in different ways, in the list below we highlight the most frequent conflicts in organizations:

personality conflicts

This type of conflict arises from differences in personality, communication style and interpersonal clashes between team members.

Conflicts of interest

They happen when the objectives, goals or interests of individuals or groups are at odds, such as competition for limited resources.

Conflicts of power and authority

They involve disputes over who has authority or influence over decisions and actions, often between managers and subordinates or even between members of management.

Communication conflicts

They result from poor communication, inadequate or misinterpreted information or misunderstandings between the parties involved.

Role conflicts

When expectations about what team members are expected to do are unclear, conflicts over responsibilities and tasks can arise.

Organizational culture conflicts

These are caused by cultural differences, values and norms within the organization, especially in multinational or more globalized organizations.

Change conflicts

Normally, the introduction of organizational changes, such as restructuring or the implementation of new policies, can often generate this type of conflict.

HOW TO RESOLVE OR AVOID CONFLICTS?

The simplest way to resolve a conflict is simply to avoid it and not allow any disagreements to become larger or more serious conflicts, which are often impossible to ignore or get around. In this scenario, those responsible for organizations must assess their work environment and relationships between employees, in order to be able to detect any type of conflict early and take action before it develops.

In the conflict scenario presented at the beginning of this text, the resolution would involve the mediation of a leader or manager, seeking a compromise between the parties involved and objectively analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of each of the approaches presented to find a solution that benefits the organization as one all. Therefore, it is necessary for for organizations to create a healthy and welcoming environment for all their employees, so as to avoid the outbreak of labor conflicts and it is also essential to try to assess the causes of divergences, if they occur, and, therefore, Therefore, seek to outline possible solutions to prevent these from affecting the proper functioning of activities.

If a conflict is detected, whatever type it may be, it is necessary to bring together the parties involved in the conflict, try to understand the reason why the conflict arose, listen openly to both parties and, depending on what is said, propose a solution. And it is important to highlight that one cannot in any way defend one and condemn the other. Instead of dividing the parties, it is necessary to seek to highlight their common points and thus create a climate of harmony, coordination and cooperation.

A good organizational environment can play a key role in resolving conflicts effectively. Here are tools used by companies to develop a healthy environment:

Open Communication: A culture that promotes open and honest communication facilitates the early identification of conflicts, allowing them to be addressed before they become bigger problems.

Mutual Respect: An environment where employees respect and value differences in opinion and perspectives makes it more likely that people will be willing to listen and consider different points of view.

Effective Leadership: Leaders who are good listeners, skilled mediators, and who demonstrate empathy can play an important role in resolving conflict constructively.
Clear policies and procedures: Having clear organizational policies for dealing with conflict, including a conflict resolution process, provides clear guidelines for the parties involved.

Conflict resolution training: Providing necessary information or training on conflict resolution skills to employees and leaders can empower people to better handle disputes effectively. This ability is an increasingly valued softskill.

Feedback culture: A culture that encourages regular, constructive feedback can allow concerns to be addressed before they become serious conflicts.

In summary, a positive organizational environment creates the ideal conditions for conflicts to be resolved in a more effective and constructive way, benefiting both individuals and the organization, and the use of strategies and tools that help to achieve this objective becomes essential for the success of a company in this matter.
